On January 18th, FIERCE had several teams participate in the Polar Pitch 4v4 Tournament: 11G Navy, 12G Navy, 13G Grey, 14G Navy, and 14G Grey. The event served as an exciting platform for players to stay active in the winter and kick off the spring season with some friendly competition.
The tournament's 4v4 format alone presented an exciting development opportunity for the players. With smaller fields and less players per team, FIERCE's teams were tested with controlling the ball in tighter spaces and higher rates of gameplay involvement. With these challenges set before them, FIERCE's futsal culture proved advantageous to our younger players. 12G Navy earned 1st place, while 14G Grey earned second place.
Academy Director Rachelle D'Amico had the opportunity to work with these teams alongside Director of Coaching Kamille Cervantes and 11G Navy Head Coach Victoria Smith. After the event, Coach Rachelle shared her experience:
It was great to see our teams compete in the Polar Pitch tournament. The 4v4 format was ideal for FIERCE teams to showcase their small sided technical skills learned from our year round futsal training. Our teams had a blast playing in the fast paced competition, and even brought home some well-deserved hardware. We’re so proud of the girls playing through the winter elements, and are excited & ready for the spring season ahead!
Not even the blistering cold could deter these girls from seizing every opportunity to grow! FIERCE is so proud of the way each player demonstrated fearlessness, enthusiasm, and coachability throughout the tournament. Next stop: spring season league play!
