After a competitive season in WDDOA's Challenger Flight, FIERCE's 10G and 11G Fearless teams earned a promotion to the league's top Flight - Prime. This exciting accomplishment paves the way for FIERCE teams to compete against top select teams in the region, and battle for a potential promotion to the State Classic League.
FIERCE 10G earned its promotion under the strong leadership of Coach Christina Salas - a member of STX Olympic Development Program (ODP) Staff, and holder of a National D and GK License. After 14 matches over the course of season, FIERCE 10G finished first in their bracket. The team established a strong offensive and defensive presence, with a bracket-high 36 Goals For and a Goal Differential of 24.
10G player Dolly Adam had the following to say about the season:
This was our best season yet to come, we worked really hard and grew mentally and physically from it. Watching from the sidelines for the first half of the season from injury allowed me to see the welcoming environment our team has to new people and the trust we put into them. Love you guys and we’re only going higher!
Led by Coach Kamille Cervantes - an STX ODP Staff member and recent recipient of a National B License - FIERCE 11G Fearless also earned their WDDOA Prime promotion. The team finished second in the table, only one point behind the top team. 11G Fearless proved its defensive strength with 8 shutouts and the fewest Goals Allowed out of all 14 teams in the bracket - 6 goals across 13 matches.
11G Fearless player Erin Lee had the following to say about the season:
The 23/24 season was a year of new experiences, challenges, and growth for our team. By applying what our coaches taught us and working together as a team, we were able to have an amazing season. I am so proud of what we have accomplished this year and I know that 11G Fearless will continue to work hard to become a stronger and better team. We are very thankful to Coach Kamille, our club, and our families for all their support. Be Fearless!
With the Prime promotion secured, exciting opportunities lay ahead for both teams. 10G and 11G Fearless now turn their focus to the State Cup, beginning April 20th. This tournament is the highest level of competition for South Texas, and will serve as a great test before the teams climb the promotion ladder in the fall.
The success of 10G and 11G Fearless aligns with FIERCE's vision for these teams in the upcoming TY24-25 season - especially plans to raise these teams to the National League platform next cycle. These rosters will only continue to strengthen via FIERCE's Tryouts, taking place May 13th-18th.
